I was unable to get any work done for a whole month as we were away for a while celebrating Margaret's birthday. The rain here has been incredible and I was unable to get any work done on the allotment for days. The weeds of course love this sort of weather and I have had my work cut out trying to control them. I am happy to say that everything is now under control and my crops are doing brilliantly.
The Onions, Garlic and Shallots are thriving and my Broad beans are coming on very well. I have a mass of Spinach that is edible and I have already started to give a lot away.
My Asparagus has done much too well and some of the spears almost went to flower, we have had some lovely meals so far, I always stop cutting my Asparagus on the 15th. June, so there is some time yet for more crops to grow.
I am pleased to say that my Gooseberries have formed some very promising looking fruit, I have netted them to stop my bird friends stealing the lot.
The Tomatoes are growing brilliantly, I covered some with fleece, to stop the frost getting to them and they have grown quite large. I will have to remember the way I positioned these, in small pots that I placed inside one of my separate large pots, then I covered the top of the large pot with fleece. This held the moisture in and shielded the plants from frost.

I have sown my Runner Beans, Dwarf Beans, Sweet Corn, Leeks, Onion seed, and several rows of Radishes, also Beetroot, Parsnips and of course Cabbages and several other members of the Brassica family. The seed Potatoes that I planted a month ago have all grown very well and they look very healthy indeed.
May showers and beautiful flowers

This photograph says a lot about the incredible growth of the grass on our lawn while we were away, due to the good growing conditions from this incessant rainfall. I have had to mow both lawns twice to bring them back to nearly normal. I treated them with a moss killer and feed before we went away and the results are astounding. The grass has grown so green and healthy, the moss is exterminated and also some of the other perennial weeds have been killed off. Wonderful!
I put this slideshow together of some pictures of the wonderful May flowers in the garden.
