Robert Brewer's Wednesday Poetry prompt~28/05/2014~new words Poem

For this week’s prompt, use a new(er) word in a poem. Merriam-Webster recently added 150 new terms to its collegiate dictionary, including tweep, hashtag, selfie, unfriend, paywall, big data, social networking, and more.Click here to check out some of the definitions. Of course, you don’t have to restrict yourself to this list. If you are hip with the lingo, get all jive with your bad self (or selfie–or whatever)

MISUNDERSTANDING
By John Yeo

Downloading the data of the day
I study my i-pad with care
I wonder if past generations would see
An i-pad or a babies diaper there.

My tablet is my pride and joy
The oldies took tablets for illness.
Whenever I need to decipher new words
I can download an App. for this.

Some words have altered in a very strange way.
I wonder what our Grandparents would say?
They probably would consider it very unhealthy
To take a picture of oneself and call it a “selfie”.

For this week’s prompt, write an object poem. Pick an object and write about it. Or pick an object and make it a central piece of your poem. Or pick an object and make it the title. Or pick an object and write an acrostic. Or come up with some other way to combine an object with your poem.

AN OBJECT POEM

The object of the exercise is to be
As uncontroversial as ever,
To write a poem that reflects
An objectionable object, whenever
One has an earthy need, to free
The bowels from a blockage, wherever
The need for relief arises.

To find oneself in a situation
Where the object is not available,
To fulfil the need for evacuation
Can be really quite uncomfortable.
To ponder the problem of the shortage
Of these objects for general use,
People on high sit on the throne
Write poetry and generally muse.

Robert Brewer's Wednesday Poetry prompt~14/05/2014~"Unexpected"

For this week’s prompt, write a poem in which the unexpected happens. Could be a good unexpected–like receiving a gift from an anonymous person; could be a bad unexpected–like having someone break into your house; could be a confusing unexpected–like having a complete stranger propose marriage. Whatever you’re unexpected, have fun poeming!
UNEXPECTED
By John Yeo

Just breezing along life’s way,
Drifting with the patterns of time,
Day follows day as life flows on
The minor upsets shrugged away.
Up with the lark and off to the garden
Weeding, struggling with Nature’s wiles,
Wind and rain and sunny smiles.
Change is gradual, never sudden.

Until today when I got the post
A long white envelope in my door
I must attend a meeting to my advantage
With a well known attorney at law.
The meeting is solemn, there is a will
I am now a wealthy man.
My fortunes have changed, my life rearranged
Life will never be  quite the same.

I wonder if the seeds I sowed will survive
The garden of life goes on.

Why I like Writing~~

Picture
"I love Writing because~~~?

I am a fisherman of words,
I bait my hook with delicious words
To catch the compliments and praise
For my ability to put them together.

I don't throw my words back in the sea,
I write as I think. clear and free.
Rhyming or blank verse, I fire away
My words are a part of me.

THE BOY WHO ~~?
For this week’s prompt, take the phrase “The Boy Who (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write your poem. Feel free to replace the word “boy” with “girl.” Possible titles include: “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” “The Girl Who Knew Too Much,” “The Boy Who Walked Into a Bar,” and so on.

THE BOY WHO WENT TO WAR
By John Yeo

Our country is in for a fight
Heroics are the order of the day.
The enemy are powerful and strong,
Killing and fighting and coming this way.

I will join in this great adventure.
I wont wait to travel and take up the fight
My country needs me, I am patriotic
I will stand with my fellows to do what is right.

I know I am two years short of eighteen
I am tall and strong and I look much older.
Slim of the hip and broad of the shoulder
I will fight for freedom, the ashes still smoulder.

If I can proudly stand and fight in this war
Flouting danger of death, to follow the plan
We will win this glorious battle, that’s for sure.
I will grow from a boy and return home a man
