HALFWAY POEM
The halfway point from London in England
To Sydney in Australia is Mauritius,
In Mauritius we will be halfway home,
Which home is now home?
We moved to Australia in 2004
Sold our UK home and got the keys
To our new home in Australia.
We settled in fast, made many friends
As we made ourselves at home.
Our family and friends remain in England,
In Mauritius we stood on a rock.
It was difficult to decide which way,
Led home from our halfway point.
Home is Australia, home is also England.
We are very happy where we live in Australia,
The sun shines brightly and life is good.
When home was the UK we were settled and OK
But the future forecast looked bleak
We looked to Australia for a new beginning.
We left our family and friends in England
We were made very welcome here,
Life is good, with freedom and yet,
Our feelings and roots in England.
Homesickness our only complaint,
Which home do we pine for most?
