For today’s prompt, write a “news of the day” poem. The poem should use some sort of recent news event as a springboard. It can be a news story from today (this morning), but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, you could even go “old school” and find news stories from archived sources–like the “news of the day” from 1936 (to pick a random year)

Day 2~~Saturday 2nd November 2013
News of the day comes in the usual flood
From media outlets around the world
Filling the data stream, continuously altered
Arranged and presented in many ways.
News channels, online electronic airwaves,
The World Wide Web in universal array.
E-mails, texts and telephone conversation,
Carry the picture to every far flung station.
A controversial week for the N.S.A.
A major arm of the defence of the U.S.A.
The National Security Agency, always on the watch.
Has been over-zealous with eavesdropping plots.
The agency can filter every post or tweet,
E-mail or text, listen in to the calls.
Crash their computers, hack and destroy
Insert a virus, we are a peaceful nation.
Insidious, real, a modern electronic shield,
The agency can filter every call, post or text.
Just for your protection you understand,
Our peace and safety throughout the land.
Every call is monitored for the slightest hint
Of a terror attack or insurgency plan.
We can nip the attack plans in the bud
Get the plotters before the attack can begin.
Pooling information with our allies abroad,
Interpreting data from Google, Yahoo and the rest.
You legislated and told us what should be done,
Eavesdrop on foreign political intentions.
WE ONLY OBEYED YOUR ORDERS~~~~~
